Musbah
...Lantern

T
he source of light during night inside a bedouin tent or while travelling was the lantern or “Musbah” used by the ancient Arabs. It was being used over centuries and until today it is used by the bedouin tribesmen living in remote areas or while travelling. The fuel used in musbah is kerosene which is filled in the lower dish or base of the musbah. A piece of cotton stripe is dipped in the lower dish through which the kerosene move upwards by capillary action. The upper end of the stripe is lighted and moved up and down by the lantern pinion to increase or decrease the intensity of light. The glowing stripe is surrounded by a glass chimney to avoid putting off the light by wind or even severe storm.
