Nakhla ...Palm Tree |
|
|||
The palm tree or “Nakhla” grows in abundance within the desert gardens of the dry sands of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It receives water for growth by unseen underground water. The oases cannot develop without the palm trees, most of the vegetation in an oasis can survive only in the presence of palm trees. The fruit of palm is the date or ‘tamr’ and is the chief crop of Saudi Arabia. The Al-Hasa oases is the core of the date industry with some of the palms having produced fruit for over a century. Before 1930’s much of Saudi Arabia’s revenue was from the export of dates. There are over 65 varieties of dates grown within the Kingdom. |
